The South Boston High School
Project involves plans for the renovation and rehabilitation of the 100
year old building located in South Boston, Massachusetts.
Renovations include:
- Four (4) new Science Laboratories, three
(3) rooms upgraded, and two (2) existing classrooms converted into new
laboratories.
- Upgrading eight (8) gang toilets, two
(2) locker/shower rooms and certain faculty toilet rooms, including
ADA/MAAB compliance.
- Upgrading and cosmetic improvements to
all classrooms, all corridors and all public spaces.
- Upgrading all stairways.
- Masonry joint repairs, repointing and
waterproofing.
- Interior/exterior window sash replacements
and improvements in existing window frames.
To support the proposed renovation, Environmental
& Construction Management Services, Inc. (ECMS) was retained
by the project architect Arnold Jacobson Associates, Inc. (AJA) of South
Boston, Massachusetts to conduct an investigative survey and construction
administration in the areas of proposed renovation. ECMS scope
of services included all hazard assessments, remedial design, and construction
management activities related to asbestos-containing materials and lead-based
paint.
To support the proposed demolition activities,
ECMS conducted a limited investigative survey for asbestos-containing
materials and lead-based paint throughout the building.
ECMS provided hazardous material
abatement design plans and specifications necessary to facilitate the
renovations required.
ECMS is also providing project administrative
and construction management support including compliance supervision,
inspections of contractor activities, and air quality monitoring during
abatement operations.
