The South Boston High School Project involves plans for the renovation and rehabilitation of the 100 year old building located in South Boston, Massachusetts.

Renovations include:

  • Four (4) new Science Laboratories, three (3) rooms upgraded, and two (2) existing classrooms converted into new laboratories.
  • Upgrading eight (8) gang toilets, two (2) locker/shower rooms and certain faculty toilet rooms, including ADA/MAAB compliance.
  • Upgrading and cosmetic improvements to all classrooms, all corridors and all public spaces.
  • Upgrading all stairways.
  • Masonry joint repairs, repointing and waterproofing.
  • Interior/exterior window sash replacements and improvements in existing window frames.

To support the proposed renovation, Environmental & Construction Management Services, Inc. (ECMS) was retained by the project architect Arnold Jacobson Associates, Inc. (AJA) of South Boston, Massachusetts to conduct an investigative survey and construction administration in the areas of proposed renovation. ECMS scope of services included all hazard assessments, remedial design, and construction management activities related to asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint.

To support the proposed demolition activities, ECMS conducted a limited investigative survey for asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint throughout the building.

ECMS provided hazardous material abatement design plans and specifications necessary to facilitate the renovations required.

ECMS is also providing project administrative and construction management support including compliance supervision, inspections of contractor activities, and air quality monitoring during abatement operations.
