The Perkins School for the Blind
Campus, chartered in 1829 was the first school for the blind in the United
States. For almost 170 years the staff at Perkins have been providing
quality services to students and clients who are blind, visually handicapped,
deafblind and multi-handicapped. The school is licensed as a group-care
facility by the Office of Child Care Services, and Massachusetts Departments
of Education and Mental Retardation.
Perkins is located on a 38-acre campus 3/4 of a mile from Watertown Square.
The campus consists of fifteen (15) dormatory "cottages" each
with kitchen and living facilities, three (3) buildings housing classrooms
and administrative offices, infirmary; facilities and stores building;
several staff residences; four (4) gymnasiums; a swimming pool; library;
chapel and four (4) athletic fields. The campus overlooks the Charles
River and has attractive and well-kept buildings and grounds.
Environmental & Construction Management
Services, Inc. (ECMS) was retained by Perkins School for the Blind
to conduct an comprehensive investigative survey for asbestos-containing
materials (ACM) throughout the entire school campus and develop and implement
a maintenance strategy as required by State and Federal regulations.
