As part of the Central Artery
Tunnel Project (CAT) Contract C08A1, renovations to Memorial Stadium Park
"stadium at the airport" were performed. As part of the renovations to
the stadium on Porter Street a EUROTAN WS field was placed. The EUROTAN
WS is a porous synthetic sport surface comprising a base layer of polyurethane
bound rubber granules topped with a spray-applied coat of one component
polyurethane and EPDM granules.
The East Boston Memorial Stadium Grandstand
is a steel frame structure that is finished with concrete and concrete
block that was constructed in the 1940’s. There is a below grade area
that houses mechanical areas and above grade areas that house locker room/shower
and office spaces. The building exterior consists of concrete bearing
walls finished with a concrete skim coat. Interior building components
include concrete floors finished with floor leveler and carpet. Interior
walls are primarily finished with concrete block.
The grandstands will accommodate more than
1,000 fans. The entire grounds, under the jurisdiction of the Boston Parks
Department, includes areas for baseball, softball, basketball, football,
track and even a play lot for the kids.
Environmental & Construction Management
Services, Inc. (ECMS) was retained by Earthtech, Inc. of Concord,
Massachusetts to conduct an investigative survey and construction administration
in the areas of proposed renovation within the grandstand/field house.ECMS
scope of services included all hazard assessments, remedial design, and
construction management activities related to asbestos-containing materials.
To support the proposed renovation/demolition
activities of the boiler room and other areas of the field house, ECMS
conducted an investigative survey for asbestos-containing materials (ACMs)
throughout the building.
ECMS provided hazardous material
abatement design plans and specifications necessary to facilitate the
renovations required.
ECMS is also providing project administrative
and construction management support including compliance supervision,
inspections of contractor activities, and air quality monitoring during
abatement operations.
